Gardeners' market for refugee projects

On Saturday, 17 September 2016, Felinwnda Gardening Club will hold a gardeners' market in aid of refugee projects. From 6.30pm onwards fresh produce of the Club's gardens and kitchens will be on sale outside the Harp Inn in Llandwrog. The proceeds of the market will go to two refugee projects: local refugees support group Pobl i Bobl and the City Plaza hotel in Athens.

Pobl i Bobl was founded by individuals who had come together in response to the migration crisis of 2015. It aims to reach out in solidarity to offer support from Wales to displaced people worldwide, regardless or race, religion, or location. Pobl i Bobl have been dispatching aid donated by individuals in North Wales to Greece, Northern France and Syria itself, and Pobl i Bobl volunteers have travelled to crisis situations across Europe.

At City Plaza, refugees find a place that allows for privacy, in an atmosphere of security and dignity. The hotel was occupied in April 2016 by an activist group. Together with the refugees many people in solidarity now manage the daily life in the hotel. There is no support from the state. But there are good food, clean hallways, a pharmacy, a hairdresser, as well as language courses, a library and legal support. Everything is maintained on a voluntary basis and supported through donations. And all decisions are made collectively.
